Southern Wings operate a modern, superbly equipped, well maintained and diversified fleet, suitable for all training purposes as part of a New Zealand flying school. As students progress to cross country and advanced aspects of flight training they can expect to transition to the Piper Archer PA aircraft. For multi engine conversion training and advanced instrument training our students can expect to transition to the Piper Seneca aircraft. The New Zealand Southern Wings flight school offers professional pilot training for a wide range of students.
Committed to excellence the Southern Wings aviation training school is fully equipped with a well maintained fleet of fixed wing aircraft suitable for all training purposes. Selected by The Air New Zealand Aviation Institute to be one of only five flight training organisations FTO’s in New Zealand to develop career training options for aspiring airline pilots,Southern Wing’s commercial flight training programmes have been specifically designed to meet industry requirements for commercial airline pilots. Progressing first as a student pilot and then working up the instructing ladder, Southern Wings provided me with all the support and opportunity I needed to achieve my airline dream. They were always happy to go above and beyond to help, and share their knowledge and experience.
The skills I’ve learnt and the memories I have of Southern Wings will stick with me throughout my career. Commercial Pilots Licence, Multi engine Instrument Rating, C Category, B Category and Multi engine Instructor Rating. Every pilot starts somewhere and looking back I can’t think of a better place to start than Southland and with Southern Wings. Commercial Pilot License, Multi Engine, Instrument Rating, C Category and B Category Instructor.
Training with Southern Wings provided varied terrain and weather which was invaluable for developing not only stick and rudder skills but also decision making skills. The staff passed on their passion and knowledge and I have many great memories of the good times at Southern Wings. In the 6 years since I have left Southern Wings, I have flown around the world twice in a single engine aircraft, and have flown a solo crossing of the north Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and around the Pacific Ocean. The staff were great to work with and taught me the things I needed to know to get a job flying.
It is one of New Zealand’s original aviation colleges, operated by people who are passionate about flying and assisting others to become pilots.
